This course will examine the major developmental processes and milestones for children, both typically and atypically developing, from conception through adolescence in the areas of physical, psychosocial, emotional, and cognitive development. Emphasis will be on interactions between maturational and environmental factors within a culturally sensitive framework. In studying developmental theory and research methodologies, students will observe children, evaluate individual differences and analyze characteristics of development at various stages.

This course presents elaboration of developmental aspects of psychosocial, cognitive and physical development, intelligence, personality, self-concept and social roles; tasks, changes and adjustments related to each phase of the life span. It provides an overview of bio-social, cognitive, and psychosocial developments during the prenatal period through the stages of late adulthood.
